Job Description

We are looking for a qualified accountant to join us, in a critical finance role, you’ll be responsible for preparation, reporting and commentary on key financial information. Bringing strong business partnering skills and a confidence in presenting financial information to senior non-finance staff, you’ll provide meaningful insight to help the business track against its budget and forecasts. In addition, you’ll input into the monthly management accounts, and will use your broader business knowledge to provide meaningful commentary, performance analysis and explanations of significant variances to budget at a level of detail and tone appropriate for the Board.

Our ever-expanding business changes by the day. With this comes a wealth of ad-hoc projects and process improvements we’ll seek your involvement in. As such, we’re looking for someone with initiative who can recognise and act on these opportunities for change and is keen to get involved with new projects to help the business and broaden their own knowledge.

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Management of month end close process.  Ensure all month end reporting and supporting performance analysis is completed and reviewed within strict timeframes.
  • Preparation and communication of insightful and meaningful analysis of the following key areas:
      • Settlement Costs and reconciliation of credit card receipts of sales data
      • Chargeback costs
  • Prepare group and individual entity month end balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Preparation of complex calculations and journal entries, including multi-currency transactions.
  • Proactively work with business stakeholders to forecast key cost and cash drivers, on an ongoing basis. 
  • Management of revenue and costs of sales accounting entries and cash settlement processes.
  • Key contact point of contact for external and internal audit visits.  Collation of interim and year end audit requirements.

Finance Business Partner

  • Proactively create and promote partnerships with business units. Provide all relevant financial support and analysis to assist in decision making.
  • Be able to enquire, express opinion and provide feedback constructively and with confidence.
  • Key contributor into annual budget and quarterly reforecast process across areas of responsibility, working together with business partners and commercial finance team.

Process & Controls Champion

  • Proactively work with other key finance stakeholders to define and implement new financial reporting processes that are well controlled and provide insightful commercial information.
  • Continuous review and improvement of existing finance processes.
  • Implement (where required), review and update process documentation to ensure internal controls framework remains robust, accurate and complete. 

People

  • Management and coaching of one direct report. Provide opportunities to develop and support them in completing their accounting qualification, whilst building experience in a variety of areas.
  • Lead by example and promote Trainline behaviours.

Other

  • Demonstrate continuous process improvement and work with others within the business to streamline key processes.
  • Strong focus on controls
  • Work alongside wider finance team on central projects.
  • Preparation of ad hoc financial reports.
