An exciting and rare opportunity for a mixed veterinary surgeon has arisen in a Veterinary Practice in the Western Isles, a beautiful Island in the Scottish Islands

Based in Stornoway, and covering the Island of Lewis and Harris, this practice offers veterinary services to a large and varied client base. They are looking to add a mixed veterinary surgeon to their independent, long-established, and successful team.

About the role:

Experienced mixed veterinary surgeon, general practice.

  • Permanent, full-time position (Part-time applications will be considered, as flexible working supported where necessary)
  • Ideally the candidate will have experience in practice, however, full support can be offered to new graduates. The practice will give a fast-track experience to any graduate and huge rewards to more experienced vets.
  • 5-day week, 1 in 5 weekends (Saturday’s emergency only 10 am-4 pm).
  • On-call duty is included when you are on the weekend rota, plus one night per week.
  • Salary is dependent on experience level, to be discussed on an individual basis
  • Accommodation could be provided, as well as a vehicle
  • You will be qualified, hold RCVS accreditation, and have proof of your right to work in the UK
  • As a mixed vet, the caseload is generally 70% small animal, 25% farm/large animal, and 5% equine. You will need varied experience ideally across all.
  • You will need to be comfortable with both, consults, surgery, and call-outs, and with the lambing season around the corner, you must be flexible surrounding hours at certain busy times of the year, indicative of the season.

This independent practice is set in a beautiful part of the world, with breath-taking views, and countryside it offers a wonderful lifestyle, for anyone that enjoys the outdoors. It offers good transport links to the mainland too.

As the only practice on the island, it has established itself in the local community, first opening its doors over 30 years ago. It has a strong close-knit team environment, where its strong culture has resulted in low staff turnover and a loyal workforce.

You will be working alongside a team of 5 excellent Vets, and 2 supportive RVNs, who are passionate and dedicated to providing the highest standard of veterinary care possible.

The practice approach is that of a caring, sympathetic, and professional one, working closely with patients and clients, whilst truly caring about their team members and the people and patients they look after.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join the team. This is a truly independent practice, with no intention of being anything but. They provide an excellent opportunity for expanding mixed animal care with two in-house consult rooms and theatre, good imaging facilities bolstered with a large number of farming, crofting, and equestrian clients.
