Michael Page are delighted to partnering with client to recruit a Senior Financial Accountant, responsible for several key tasks on behalf of the Financial Controller. The post holder is responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely group financial reporting requirements, such as periodic financial reports, budgets, forecasts, group year-end accounts, and the financial control management within the business.

Our client is a market leading UK Wide Business based in Glasgow. This role will be a hybrid position with flexibility when required.

Description

The successful candidate will likely have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead on the day-today Group Finance relationship, ensuring all Group Finance deliverables are met in a timely and accurate manner with appropriate review and authorisation. To include routine periodic, quarterly and annual requirements and additional Group reporting as and when required.
  • This will involve working with the wider business and finance team to ensure inputs are prepared in line with deliverables, to ensure that the group reporting can be submitted as required.
  • Lead on the production of the statutory accounts, on behalf of the Financial Controller, including managing the business and wider finance team inputs and the day-to-day interaction with the external auditors, accountants and pension consultants.
  • Lead on the day-to-day relationship with wider Glasgow functions for key matters that impact the financial accounts, including process improvements and VAT returns.
  • Ensuring that financial governance and controls are upheld within the business, where they impact the financial accounts and balance sheets. This includes working with wider Finance team and business to ensure that financial controls / systems are in line with the accounting requirements that they underpin, with corrective action implemented as required.
  • Lead the periodic balance sheet review process, including ensuring that all accounts are reconciled to an auditable standard and the periodic presentation to the Financial Controller and Finance Director of key risks identified and plans to mitigate them.
  • Lead the IFRS16 reporting requirements, including interacting with the business and external parties for the latest group plans and forecasts of future movements.
  • Lead the completion of technical papers and judgemental reviews, in line with accounting regulations, as directed by the Financial Controller and Group.
  • Support the Financial Controller in ensuring funding is in place, as required within the business, whilst at all times ensuring compliance with financial covenants contained within agreements
  • Lead the completion taxation and compliance matters for HMRC and other external bodies, such as tax returns, PSA and SAO documents, in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the Capitalisation policy ensuring process efficiencies are implemented and controlled.
  • Lead the review of the asset register to ensure that it is maintained in line with accounting and function requirements, including working directly with the business to embed required processes.
  • Work collaboratively with other Group senior stakeholders to seek out best practice and implement appropriate changes within departments to ensure consistency.
  • Work with the Group finance team, and Group finance forums, to ensure controls are in line with group requirements. Including circulating updates, and new policies as applicable.
  • Support and deputise for the Financial Controller, as and when required, for interactions with Group Finance.
  • Responsible for the Delegated Financial Authority ("DFA") process, to ensure that an effective and compliant process is in operation in line with the latest policies.
  • Responsible for the minimum financial controls within the team and ensure continuous process reviews and improvements are implemented as directed by the Financial Controller, including the implementation of process improvements, financial controls and policies, to ensure key financial controls are in place to mitigate financial risks.
  • Manage and upskill the Financial Accountant, including regular interactions to drive both personal and business improvements.

Profile

The successful candidate will likely have the following profile;

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA)
  • Practice background with both audit and industry.
  • The role requires flexibility, good planning skills and ability to be able to multitask to meet deadlines (without compromising quality) during complex periods.
  • To deliver a consistent and incisive level of financial analysis without compromising on the attention to detail and regular deadlines that must be met to satisfying internal and external requirements.
  • Excellent communication ability, able to tailor style to the audience including frequent communication with senior leaders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven record in building effective teams at all levels.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organisation, and cross functions.
  • Experience of reviewing processes and implementing controls, to improve both the financial compliance and the users interaction with the process.
  • Excellent MS Office skills, in particular MS Excel with an aptitude for analysis.
