Technical Author

We produce diverse technical documents for projects, from rocket engine test procedures to System Engineering Gate documents.

The Technical Author will support engineering teams in creating top-notch technical documents for products, projects, and activities. Ideal candidates are engineers with expertise in structuring complex technical information, high attention to detail, and extensive technical writing experience. They will collaborate with teams across divisions, including test sites, operations, and vehicle assembly.

Key responsibilities and tasks for theTechnical Author:

Craft, conceptualize, create, and refine technical documentation, encompassing design specifications, test procedures, etc.

Create technical user manuals, data sheets, and reports.

Coordinate with all engineering teams to gather relevant information for producing documentation

Assist and play a crucial role in writing grant proposals.

Interpret complex technical product information and re-write this to ensure it is appropriate for all end users

Manage the timeline for delivering content within project deadlines
Adhere to the system engineering method for projects, overseeing gate document management.

Managing engineering drawings (versions, standards etc.)
Offer technical and grammar reviews for fellow writers to guarantee that tasks meet specified standards.

Mentor other staff members to improve document standards

Be part of a dynamic and fast paced team that is putting the UK back into space

Preferred experience and skills for the Technical Author:

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field (Aerospace / Mechanical etc)

3+ years of experience technical writing for an engineering discipline

Knowledge of system engineering document processes

Knowledge of basic engineering documentation standards

Must have good reviewing and writing skills, with a strong ability to ensure details are accurate

Capability to outline documents starting from basic principles.

Ability to perform gap analyses on existing project documentation to develop our systems further

Utilize expertise in gathering information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.

Ability to provide high quality documentation with an excellent attention to detail

Must possess the ability to establish goals, prioritise multiple objectives with different deadlines, and autonomously oversee documentation within project frameworks.

Capable of integrating into diverse teams and projects to grasp products and services thoroughly.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail

Additional requirements for the Technical Author:

Valid passport, including right to work in the UK

Must be willing to work in a dynamic teamwork-oriented environment

Must be willing to work overtime and weekends, going the extra mile to meet critical company deadlines
