Our client is a global multi-disciplinary consultancy business, supporting clients across a range of sectors, including the UK energy sector.  As this sector works towards a Net Zero Carbon target, our client is supporting organisations in power generation, transmission & distribution, including onshore & offshore wind energy and HVDC interconnectors.

Senior/Principal HV Substation/Primary Plant Design Engineers

The HV Substation/Primary Plant Design Engineers will work on a hybrid basis within the Energy Networks team, based out of Glasgow, Birmingham, London, Epsom or Leeds.

You will be accountable for some or all of the following tasks:
 
    • Providing Technical Leadership on the FEED and Detail Design workstream for Transmission & Distribution clients.
    • Ensuring adequate quality assurance and delivery of FEED, Detailed Design and bids for clients.
    • Ensuring adequate resources and training of resources for the purposes of delivering FEED and detailed design work for e.g. National Grid.
    • Acting as BP141 (former TP141) or equivalent assurance engineer where required (candidates working towards BP141 HV Plant / Substation qualification will also be considered).
    • Reviewing the HV plant aspects of different projects including HV layouts, elevations, maintenance access drawings, earthing design and reports, mechanical interlocking, HV busbar calculations and technical specification for the HV plant equipment.
    • Acting as Principal Designer Representative when required.
    • Coordination with back-office engineers, sub-contractors and suppliers as required.
    • Managing tender packages as tender manager and undertaking HV plant aspects of technical offers.
    • Attending Design Review and Hazard Review meetings and reviewing HV plant design packages as required.
    • Attending site visits, FAT and SAT as required.

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be qualified to degree level or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (Chartered Engineer status through the IET is desirable), with relevant experience in substations design in the UK Transmission sector (132kV or above).

You will have:
 
    • Experience of working for a client organisation such as transmission system owner/operator, distribution network operator or a design consultancy delivering to such organisation.
    • BP141 / TP141 HV Substation qualification or equivalent authorised or ability to do so.
    • Strong understanding and leadership of the engineering projects through asset lifecycles (for Principal level roles).
    • Track record of leading teams in the delivery of Front-End Engineering and design or Detailed Design of EHV (132kV-400kV) substation projects (for Principal level roles).
    • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Experience on maintaining existing and developing new client relationships.
    • Experience in coaching and developing junior engineers.
    • Flexibility to travel to client sites when required.
