Anderson Knight are delighted to be working exclusively with our client who are a leader in their Field. The role is for an Operations Manager to be responsible for all aspects of their state of the art facility based in Central Scotland.

Ensuring the Facility is operated in a Safe and Compliant manner in line with Management Standards. To lead the Team and delivery a fully compliant facility, producing quality output and that delivers financially for the business.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Visible focal point for the Site Operation setting clear standards and performance Levels.

• Implement a site and wider company communication plan that ensures that team are informed and motivated. 

• Lead team interactions around Health and Safety and Compliance matters. 

• Lead team and direct business requirements based on robust interpretation of data. 

• Develop and coach Site Team to ensure continual improvement throughout the business unit.

• Promote and ensure business unit adheres to all Company Processes and Procedures. 

• Set individual performance targets and carry out appraisals with the team delegating to Supervisors where appropriate.

Operational Management

• Accountable for the daily site operations  

• Develop operationally robust data that accurately reflects the business performance. 

• Interrogate and understand the operational data and use to direct operations on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

• Utilising data ensure continual improvement of the facility.  

• Develop and manage a structured Planned Preventative Maintenance regime.

• Ensure that all tasks on site are carried in a safe and timely manner.

• Develop and own the site’s Management System in line with the wider business.  

• Develop and plan the site resource requirement to maximise business performance operationally and financially.

• Manage and report on the area’s production and performance on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

• Ensure that all material produced by the process meets the specification of the market.

• Ensure that the incoming material meets the contractual specification and feedback on those that do not.

• Ensure commercial agreements are in place for all materials being removed from site. 

• Create monthly board reports within the required time frame

• Manage visitors/contractors to the area and check permits for work, and have completed the  necessary site induction.  

• Develop a Business Continuity Plan in the event of plant failure or off taker changes.

Resource Management

• Create and manage a resource plan to reflect the operational requirements and adjust to reflect seasonal changes in composition or volume.

• Ensure that Production Managers /Supervisors are competent to operate site in the absence of the Site Manager.

• Create a succession plan for all levels of management on site

• Ensure Inductions are carried out with new staff to ensure they fully aware of company policies and procedures and they quickly understand the requirements of their role

• Ensure that all aspects of the recruitment process are carried out fairly and efficiently, recruiting employees who represent the Company values.

• Ensure all the Company HR processes and procedures are adhered to including disciplinary, grievances, performance and absence management.

• Identify training requirements for staff and opportunities for development within the team. 

• Carry out appraisals and create follow up .

Finance

• Create and review annual budgets for the facility.

• Responsible for the profit and loss of the facility.

• Expenditure limit of up to £10,000.

• Report on financial performance of budget area of responsibility monthly to board

• Liaise with external companies on ways to improve or upgrade our process or equipment

• Create and maintain a capital investment plan to cover obsolescence, process improvement, compliance and continuity.

• Carry out reviews on processes and determine any internal process improvements.

• Identify new business opportunities.

• Leading and delivering technical development for process improvement.

• Analyse and present data to find cost-efficient solutions.

Compliance

• Develop and manage a plan that will ensure full compliance with the Waste Management Licence.

• Ensure good working relationship and communication with SEPA.

• Completing and submitting the Waste Management Licence Returns on a quarterly basis.

• Carry out compliance checks on incoming waste as required.

• Ensure compliance with all company work practices and procedures.

• Undertake quality control inspection of incoming/outgoing materials

• Ensure that Material trials are carried out and collate all data on a weekly basis. Calculate the material split and the process time to identify possible improvements or add a new material that could be recovered. 

Health and Safety

• Develop and lead a culture of safety and challenging of unsafe acts.

• Lead Safety Briefs and site safety meetings.

• In conjunction with the wider business develop and conduct health and safety toolbox talks.

• Create H&S documentation, Risk assessments, Sop’s, procedures etc

• Ensure that all aspects of health and safety are adhered to at all times.

• Lead site Safety inspections 0n a regular and scheduled basis.

• Report and investigate all incidents.

• Identify any H&S improvements that are required within the area

• Form part of the Health Safety Working Group.

• Overseeing the implementation of the Lock-off procedure, permits to work system, WAH, hot work to ensure compliance with company procedures

• Responsible for contractors comply to Safety requirements.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• IOSH Managing Safely

• Degree in engineering/Science and considerable experience of managing process plants or manufacturing. 

• Extensive experience of leading multi-shift teams over a 24hrs basis.

• Driving Licence

• Management qualification and or experience at plant operations level.

• Demonstratable experience of P&L Management and budget development. 

Desirable

• NEBOSH General Certificate

• Certificate of Technical Competence Level 4
