Job purpose:

The Head of Operational Excellence is a newly created role responsible for operational excellence across Pulsant’s estate of 12 data centres across the country. This person will lead and drive a range of projects and activities focused on operating standards, energy efficiency improvements, health and safety and client experience, whilst managing the Operational Excellence Lead.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a comprehensive set of standard operating procedures and processes across the data centre estate and monitor and drive compliance to ensure excellence and continuous improvement
  • Drive the programme to improve energy efficiency and sustainability across all Data Centres, including the reduction and attainment of our PUE targets
  • Work with Product team to ensure that operating procedures are aligned to the products offered to clients and that internal and external product descriptions relating to the data centre estate are accurate, consistent and available to the Data Centre teams
  • Own data centre lifecycle management to ensure that all aspects for lifecycle change can be identified at least 5 years in advance and a rolling capex and maintenance plan can be maintained.
  • Ensure input into each Data Centre capital investment budgets, ensuring key areas for that investment are being considered and requested.
  • Provide training and education to all team members to ensure consistent adoption of standard operating procedures and processes
  • Manage risk register items relating to DC Operations and ensure required enhancements are reflected in procedures and processes and these are communicated and adopted
  • Support and guide Data Centre Managers in the management of their risk registers.
  • Work closely with the Head of Environment & Sustainability plus the Head of Risk & Assurance to ensure all requirements relevant to the Data Centres are implemented and enforced consistently. Ensure that the site teams can lead the hosting of external auditors.
  • Own and maintain the installed capacity data quality across each Data Centre, ensuring this is measured consistently across all sites.
  • Work with external operators e.g., TechUK, to keep up to date with current legislation across the Data Centre industry and advise on any changes or areas to consider.
  • Ensure consistent reporting across all Data Centres using a balanced scorecard

Our ideal candidate:

  • Leadership in procedure and process management and continuous improvement
  • Experience of leading operational excellence in datacentre operation and impact across wider business areas
  • Familiar with standards and regulations relative to the Data Centre industry (e.g. CCA, CRC, CMC, H&S legislation, ISO27001, ISO14000 and ISO5001)
  • Proven capability in influencing people across an organisation with impact and encouraging adoption of change
  • Strong communicator
