Posted 10/10/2024 by Pearson
Opportunity to apply for the role of Test Administrator for the PIRLS 2026
Field Trial for schools in Scotland.
Become a Test Administrator for the PIRLS study in Scotland!
As a Test Administrator you will play a valuable role in successfully delivering PIRLS
in schools in Scotland. PIRLS is an international study focusing on reading
achievement with 10-year-old pupils (P5). Over 60 countries participate in PIRLS
with Scotland taking part in this cycle.
You will have the opportunity to network with schools in your home region, and
further afield, and gain first-hand experience with onscreen assessments in literacy
in primary schools. There is a generous daily fee with all your expenses (including
travel and accommodation where needed) covered.
This role typically suits education professionals with classroom experience at
different phases of their careers.
The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study, known as “PIRLS”, provides
internationally comparative data on how well children read and offers policy-
relevant information for improving learning and teaching. It assesses the reading
achievement of pupils at about age 10, or P5 in Scotland, every five years across
about 60 countries. It provides information on how pupils’ achievement in reading
is related to their attitudes, gender and background. In addition, PIRLS includes
questionnaires for teachers, headteachers and parents/guardians, which provide
valuable insights on teaching reading, and the school and home environment. This
is the first time Scotland have taken part in PIRLS since 2006.
Pearson is responsible for the delivery of PIRLS 2026 in schools in Scotland. The
Field Trial will take place in March to April 2025. Pearson is recruiting external Test
Administrators to administer the Field Trial in schools. Individuals who successfully
complete the role for the Field Trial will also be invited to participate as a Test
Administrator in the Main Study in April to May 2026 (exact dates TBC).
The assessment is delivered online and is split into two sessions which take around
1.5 hours in total. Pupils will also be asked to complete an online questionnaire,
which will take around 30 minutes. In addition, as a Test Administrator (TA) you will
need to consider travel time, setting up before and finishing off time after the
pupils are complete. TAs will need to be confident using technology. However,
training will be given on accessing and using the online platform and schools are
asked to have an IT technician available on the day. All administrative aspects of the
role are covered in the training, plus dedicated TA phone and email support is
available before and during test days.
Time Commitment
- Pre-training reading and quizzes, at a time that suits you (2-3 hours)
- A live online training session (c.2.5 hours) in February 2025 (date / time / exact duration TBC)
- You are available for up to three days per week to visit schools during the entire month of March, and early April 2025. (The schools you are allocated to visit will be based on your indicated availability, which we will collect prior to the test window).
