Our Green Energy and Sustainability (GES) business delivers advisory and TIC services through four business lines of sustainability, hydrogen, renewables and carbon capture and storage (CCUS). Due to continued growth in demand, we are looking for a project coordinator to support the increasing number of projects, noting that sustainability is one of the key growth engines for the TÜV SÜD group.

The projects in this area are diverse in terms of scope and size, ranging from small, short and simple, through to larger, more complex projects over longer timescales. They cover everything from carbon footprint and life cycle assessments to full sustainability audits, CCUS consultancy through to hydrogen component and product testing. So, this role will suit someone who likes variety, is keen to learn about a wide range of decarbonised energy and sustainability topics, and wants to make a difference by working to make real world solutions happen.

We are looking for someone with a demonstrable track record of coordinating projects, and whilst you do not need to be from a technical background, you will be someone with a track record of coordinating projects related to an engineering, technical or scientific field. We have strong technical teams in all these areas, who you will work with on a daily basis to ensure projects are delivered on-time, on-spec and in-budget. Whilst knowledge or experience of sustainability, renewables, hydrogen and/or CCUS will be advantageous, more important is a willingness to learn, and a genuine passion for sustainability and decarbonisation – everyone else in the team has it, so it is essential you do to.

The role can be primarily home or office based, or with a hybrid working pattern, noting that the Green Energy and Sustainability team is spread across the UK, and so we embrace online collaborative ways of working. The candidate must have the ability to work in the UK.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure implementation of, and compliance with, the division’s project management procedure OP090.
  • Ensure that projects are delivered on-time, on-spec and in-budget.
  • Work with sales team at the beginning of projects to ensure a smooth hand over of projects from the sales process OP080, to the project management process OP090.
  • Ensure creation of project plans and budgets at project initiation, and maintain these through to project closure, updating in response to progress and change, as needed.
  • Ensure that all project plans and financial information are kept up-to-date in the company’s management information system.
  • Complete monthly financial reviews with division financial controller and management, including suitable preparation of material beforehand, ensuring that all information is current at the time of review.
  • Risk management: Work with area leads to identify potential risks to the project and put measures in place to mitigate them.
  • Time management: Work with area leads to ensure that the project is completed within the agreed-upon time frame.
  • Cost management: Work with area leads to manage the project budget and ensure that all project activities are completed within the allocated budget.
  • Communication management: You will need to communicate regularly with all stakeholders to keep them informed of project progress and any issues that arise.
  • Stakeholder management: You will need to manage the expectations of all project stakeholders, including sponsors, customers, and team members, and ensure that their needs are met.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties, as may be required by the business, as directed by your line manager.

Essential Criteria – the successful candidate will have/be:

  • Knowledge and application of key project management principles, evidenced through a demonstrable track record, with experience in coordinating projects from start to finish, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closure.
  • Strong organisation skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise workload based on business requirements.
  • A good understanding of practical financial issues and commercial fundamentals which contribute to the customer experience and contribute to the profitability of the business.
  • Experience in managing project budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring that the project is completed within the allocated budget.
  • Able to identify and manage project risks and develop contingency plans if required.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft office suite of applications.

Desirable Criteria – it would also be beneficial to have:

  • Project management certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2.
  • Testing, Inspection and Certification industry knowledge.
  • Knowledge or experience related to sustainability and/or decarbonised energy, possibly including a relevant qualification or STEM degree (not essential).
