Senior Hydrologist / Flood Risk Engineer

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: £37,500 - £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time, permanent

Senior Hydrologist / Flood Risk Engineer – The Role

As a Senior Hydrologist / Flood Risk Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering hydrology, flood risk, and drainage projects while contributing to the company’s long-term success. Key Responsibilities;

•  Lead and contribute to Flood Risk Assessments for a variety of projects.
•  Conduct hydraulic flood modelling, drainage design, and hydrological assessments.
•  Manage projects from start to finish, ensuring delivery within scope, time, and budget.
•  Carry out water quality and quantity monitoring, including water sampling and hydrometric installations.
•  Work with GIS and AutoCAD to create spatial drawings and technical reports.
•  Provide technical input and quality assurance across projects.
•  Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development efforts.
•  Undertake site work, including occasional travel across the UK.

Senior Hydrologist / Flood Risk Engineer – What we need from you

Essential:

•  A 2:1 degree or higher in a relevant field (Hydrology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or related subject).
•  Demonstrated experience in Flood Risk Assessments and knowledge of relevant planning and technical guidance.
•  Strong report writing and project management skills, including managing deadlines and budgets.
•  Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS) and/or AutoCAD.
•  Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for site work.
•  Passion for environmental sustainability and Net Zero initiatives.
•  Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

•  Experience with hydraulic modelling software (e.g., Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS).
•  Drainage design experience.
•  Experience with hydrological and hydrogeological modelling.
•  4x4/off-road driving experience.
•  Membership of a professional body (e.g., CIWEM, ICE, CIEEM)

Route to Chartership

The management team are Chartered Members of their chosen professional accreditation bodies and will fully support and mentor the candidate in their chosen path towards Chartership. This includes paying the annual membership fees of the candidates chosen professional body.

The chosen candidate would be expected to complete a statutory 6-month probation period. Upon successful completion of this the employee would be enrolled onto the various employer schemes (healthcare, life assurance etc.)
